Cheap Champagne

By Meredith Lee

I have given champagne grapes another chance.

I quite delicately roam my hands down
the tiny bunches
until each grape succumbs
and falls into the bowl.

Then with my head tilted back
I pop a handful into my mouth.

I don't feel cheap,
after all
this pleasure is rare
for a dollar ninety-nine.
