Across The Universe

By Robin Roberts

Once upon a yesterday and once upon a morrow
On a planet in the galaxy lived aliens full of sorrow
They had no music in their world
And their lives were becoming unfurled.
Their leader was a blue meanie and he was adamant
That no music would ever be played on his planet
So the aliens could only dream of the day
When some music would come their way.

The years went by and they wished and longed
For someone to come and sing them a song
Then one day the news came from a distant star
That there would be music traveling from afar.
From a spaceship beamed into space
The aliens hoped it would reach their place
So they sent out one of their own on a flaming pie
To pluck this music from the sky.

The blue meanie screamed, "No! This cannot be!
You will not and cannot do this to me!"
They ignored him and paid him no heed
Saying "This music is just what we need."
They tied him up and ignored his yells
Saying "You've put us through hell
Not having music is not only cruel
It's torture and you're just a fool."

The music came to them on a beam
And the aliens realized their dream
This wasn't just any music they were hearing
This was the best of the best and very endearing.
The song was Across the Universe and it was fab
The oldest alien, he laughed as a tear he did dab
The earthlings knew we were starved for good songs
So they send the best that they have along.

Those earthlings are cool human beings
And I know that we will be seeing
More of the Beatles, which is what they are called
Because into our hearts they have crawled.
And we know that from this day
There in our hearts they will stay
No other music will do for us now
They are the ones who will do it somehow.

I write poetry in my spare time.

I'm a Beatlemaniac, having loved the Beatles all of my life. I also enjoy other classic rock bands, but no other band/musician has captured my heart quite like those four lads from Liverpool.

My interests, other than the aforementioned, include hiking/walking, camping, traveling, bowling, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
